Content from apps

Some apps add their own kind of content to your admin. A cinema advertising app can add Cinemas, a franchise app Branches, a club app Members. You manage these items yourself, just like pages or agenda events, and the app and your theme take care of showing them on your website.

Each kind of content an app adds gets its own item in the Content menu, right below Agenda, with the name and icon the app gives it (for example Content → Cinemas).

info

You only see these menu items when an app that adds content is installed. Which fields an item has (a photo, a city, a number of seats) is decided by the app, so they differ per app.

Adding an item

Open the content type in the Content menu and click the Add button at the top right (for example Add Cinema). The form shows:

  • Title (required). The name of the item, for example "Vue Arnhem".
  • URL. Only shown when the items get their own page on your website. It is made from the title automatically; change it only if you want a different address.
  • The app's fields. Everything the app asks for: text, a longer description, a number, a date, a web address, an email address, a choice from a list, a yes/no switch or a photo. Fields marked with * are required.
  • Visible. Switch it off to take an item off your website without deleting it.
  • Search engines (SEO). Only for items with their own page, and the same as for your pages: a focus keyword, a title tag and a meta description, with the SEO score and tips to improve it and a preview of how the item shows in Google. Left empty, the item's title and its first text are used. Switch on Exclude this content from search engines to keep an item out of Google. The table shows the SEO score of every item in its own column.

Photos are picked from your media library, where you can also upload a new one.

Click Save and the item appears in the table.

Editing, hiding and deleting

The table lists your items with their photo, title and the most important fields, 25 per page; use the page numbers below the table to browse and the search field at the top to find an item by its title.

  • Edit: click a row (or the pencil) to open the item.
  • Show or hide: use the Visible switch in the row. A hidden item stays in the table, slightly faded, but is taken off your website straight away.
  • Open on your website: for items with their own page, the arrow button opens that page in a new tab, so you can check the result right away.
  • Delete: the bin removes the item after you confirm.
Hide instead of delete

When an item is only unavailable for a while, switch Visible off instead of deleting it. You keep everything you filled in and can switch it back on in one click.

You can also find an item from anywhere in your admin with the search bar at the top. Type part of its title or of its text (a city, a description) and the matching items show under App content, each with the icon of its content type and the type's name after the title, for example "Vue Arnhem — Cinema". Click a result to open the item straight away, ready to edit.

The search bar also finds hidden items and items that have no page on your website, so you can always get to everything you manage. It only searches the content of apps that are installed.

Importing and exporting

With the Import and Export buttons next to the search field you can fill or back up the list with a CSV file, for example from Excel or Google Sheets.

Export downloads all items (hidden ones included) as a CSV file, with one column for the title, the URL, the visibility and each field. It opens directly in Excel.

Import works in three steps:

  1. Choose a CSV file. The first row must hold the column names. Files separated by commas, semicolons or tabs all work, up to 5,000 rows.
  2. Map the columns. For every column in your file you choose which field it fills, or Do not import. SitePack already suggests a mapping when a column name matches a field. Only the title is required.
  3. Check the result. You see how many items were added, updated and skipped, with the row number and reason for every skipped row (for example an empty required field).

With Update existing items switched on (the default), a row with the same URL, or else the same title, as an existing item updates that item instead of adding a duplicate. Fields you did not map keep their current value. Switch it off to always add new items.

Start from an export

The easiest way to prepare a large import is to add one item by hand, export the list, fill the file in Excel and import it again. The column names then match the fields, so the mapping is filled in for you.

Values are checked the same way as in the form. A yes/no column accepts values such as yes, no, 1 and 0; a date may be written as 31-12-2026; a choice may use the label or the value. Photos must come from your media library, so a photo column only works with addresses from an export.

How items show on your website

That depends on the app:

  • Items with their own pages. The table shows the address of every item under its title, and there is an overview page with all items. The app brings a design for these pages; a theme made for the app can show them in its own design instead.
  • Items without pages. Your theme or the app uses them inside other pages, for example a list of partner logos on the homepage.

If you create a normal page with the same address as the overview page, your own page is shown instead. That way you can design the overview yourself with the page editor.

Items with their own page are also easy to find for visitors and search engines:

  • Search on your website. Visitors who use the search on your website find visible items by their title and text, next to your products and pages. A result links to the item's page and shows its meta description (or its first text) and its photo.
  • Sitemap. The overview page and every visible item are listed in your website's sitemap, in every language of your website, so Google finds them quickly.

Hidden items and items you excluded from search engines do not show up in either.

Search engine settings of the overview page

The overview page that lists all items (for example the page with all your cinemas) has search engine settings of its own. Open the content type in the Content menu and click Settings at the top of the page. You get the same SEO setup as for your pages:

  • Focus keyword, title tag and meta description, with the SEO score, tips to improve it and a preview of how the page shows in Google. The score counts the items on the page as its text.
  • Exclude this content from search engines. Keeps the overview page out of Google and out of your sitemap. The items themselves keep their own setting.

Left empty, the overview page uses the name of the content type as its title and the general description of your website. When your website runs in more than one language, pick a language at the top of the window to translate the title tag, meta description and focus keyword.

The Settings button only shows for content types that have an overview page. A warning sign on the button means the overview page is excluded from search engines.

info

If you made your own page at the address of the overview page, that page is shown instead, with the SEO settings you gave it in the page editor.

Translating the items

When your website runs in more than one language, you can translate the items in two ways:

  • In the item's form. Open an item and pick a language at the top of the form. You then translate the title and the text fields (such as a city, an address or a description).
  • Under Content → Translations. Choose the content type by its own name (for example Cinemas), pick the language and select Translate next to an item. If you connected a translation provider, Auto-translate fills in a first draft for you to check before you save. Once you have filled in search engine texts for the overview page, it is listed there too, so you can translate its title tag and meta description. See Translating your website for how the editor works.

Only texts are translated: the title, the text fields and the search engine texts. Photos, numbers, dates and choices are the same in every language, and a field you leave empty shows the text in your main language. The web address of an item stays the same in every language.

Managing items with an AI assistant

When you have connected an AI assistant such as Claude, it can manage these items for you too. Ask in plain language, for example "Add the new cinema in Arnhem with 9 screens" or "Hide all cinemas in Belgium". The assistant sees which content types your apps add and which fields each one has, so it knows what to fill in, and it applies the same checks as the form: a required field has to be filled and a choice has to be one of the options.

  • It can list, add, change, hide and delete items.
  • It can also set the search engine settings of the overview page, for example "Write a better title and meta description for the cinemas overview page".
  • It can translate the items and the overview page into the other languages of your website, for example "Translate all cinemas into German".
  • Photos have to come from your media library, just like in the form. The assistant can add an image to the media library first.
  • Deleting an item cannot be undone, so check what the assistant intends to delete before you agree.
Connected before?

Managing content from apps is a separate permission. If you connected your assistant before it was available, disconnect it and connect again, so you can approve it on the permission screen.

When you remove the app

When you uninstall the app, its content types disappear from the Content menu, from your website and from the search results, both in your admin and on your website. The items you entered are kept: install the app again and they are back.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not add my own fields?

The fields belong to the app, because its templates and your theme know which information to show where. If you miss a field, contact the developer of the app.

I added an item but I do not see it on my website

Check that Visible is switched on for the item, and that your theme shows this kind of content. A theme built for the app (such as the theme that comes with it) shows it automatically; other themes may need to be adjusted.

Can I change the order of the items?

The app decides the order: alphabetically, newest first or by a position number. When the app sorts by position, the form has a Position field; lower numbers come first.

Can I import photos from another website?

No. A photo field only accepts images from your media library, so rows with photo addresses from elsewhere are skipped. Import the other fields first and add the photos afterwards, or leave the photo column on Do not import.

Can I translate the items?

Yes, when your website runs in more than one language: in the item's form or under Content → Translations, where the content type is listed by its own name. See Translating the items.
