Managing Content for a Customer

As a partner, you can take care of a customer's website content for them, updating pages, navigation and other content on their behalf, without ever needing their login details. You do this from your own Partner Dashboard.

Reaching the customer's site admin

Content is managed inside the customer's own site admin, so the first step is to get there from your partner account:

  1. Open the site from the Sites section to reach its site details page.
  2. From the Actions menu, choose Login as user.
  3. You are signed in to the customer's site admin as the site owner. From here you have the same tools the customer has to manage their site.

When you're finished, exit impersonation to return to your Partner Dashboard. See Logging in as the user for the full impersonation flow.

Editing pages and content

Inside the customer's admin you can manage the site's content just as the customer would:

  • Pages: Edit the homepage and any other pages, updating titles, paragraphs and the other elements on each page. New sites start with a homepage (a title and an introductory paragraph) and a contact form page that you can build on.
  • Navigation: Adjust the site's navigation so visitors can find the pages that matter, adding, renaming or reordering menu items as the site grows.
  • Contact form: Review and adjust the contact form page that every new site includes.

For online stores, the same access lets you manage the store's catalogue, replacing the demo category and demo product that ship with a new store with the customer's real products.

Because you're working in the customer's live admin, any changes you make take effect on their site. Use View staging from the site details page first if you want to preview larger changes before they go live.

General guidance

  • Make content changes on behalf of a customer only when they've asked you to, or as agreed in your working relationship with them.
  • Preview significant changes on staging before publishing them to the live site.
  • Exit impersonation as soon as you're finished, so you return to your own partner account and don't unintentionally keep editing the customer's site.

Frequently asked questions

How do I edit a customer's website content?

Open the site's details page in your Partner Dashboard, choose Login as user from the Actions menu to enter their admin, and edit their pages, navigation and content there.

Do I need the customer's password to manage their content?

No. Login as user signs you in to their admin directly from your partner account. You never need their credentials, and you exit impersonation to return to your own account afterwards.

Can I edit the pages and navigation that came with a new site?

Yes. The starter homepage, navigation and contact form page created with every new site are fully editable, and for online stores you can replace the demo category and demo product with the customer's real catalogue.

How can I preview content changes before they go live?

Use View staging from the site details page to review changes in the non-public staging environment before publishing them to the live site.

What should I do when I've finished editing a customer's site?

Exit impersonation to end the session and return to your Partner Dashboard, so you're back in your own partner account and ready to work on another site.
